In this time of depression, surely you ask, what jobs are recession proof? What jobs should you take or perhaps what jobs should you have probably taken? There are the hopefuls but many are also in regrets. Is there even such a thing as “recession proof” in this time?

It depends on your idea of recession proof. If you’re thinking of a job that is “lay-off proof” the possibility is smaller. Every industry around the globe is being affected by the financial and economic crisis that almost nothing is spared.

However if you ask, what jobs are recession proof and have available job openings since you’re currently raring to get hired? There are answers to that question. In fact, you can find the answers for yourself.

Characteristics of recession proof jobs:

1.    Significant – think of a job or industry that is highly significant to society. Highly significant means something that is influencing many other industries in many aspects.
Significant jobs are mostly in the technology industry since technology is encompassing many other important businesses like telecommunication and banking.
2.    Basic – these are the jobs that are under the most basic industries and services that people need. Examples of these jobs are in health and education.
3.    Maintaining – when there are important industries and services, there are people who maintain and make sure that services are duly served. You can find these jobs in law, hospitals, transportation, postal services, etc.

What jobs are on top of the recession proof jobs list? On top are the Computer and Systems Programmers and Analysts. They are the ones who handle fast transactions, business processes and other programming systems in industries all over the world. The programmers and analysts make our technology-driven world work in order.

Next are jobs in health such as registered nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, dentists and even veterinarians. What is wealth without health? These people make sure that there will be human beings behind every industry and human beings to act as customers. Health is one of the most basic necessities; it never goes out of season.

Same thing goes with educators, teachers, professors and coaches. Nobody will debate against you if you say that it’s important. Many people who have been hit by the recession quit their studies to make room for other basic needs. However, many are striving to get some studies in order to move up in the competition.

Although these are the top jobs on the list, there are still some factors affecting recession proof jobs. For example, you think about your location. Your location determines the primary industry in that area and thus the most significant and basic job that you can apply for.

Think outside the box. Some recession proof jobs are the jobs that people have yet to think of. Do you see a need in your neighborhood? Go for it! Hit that need by creating a job for yourself.

You keep thinking, what jobs are recession proof? The most successful people do not only react to the situation but takes initiative to work around it.
