3:18 wow his face turned into spaghetti and meatballs. would shrapnel really cause that? or is that like a sonic boom from the explosion? it doesnt look like the cannonball going into hish face since the explosion ocurs in front of him.

An example of the horrors of war. Artillery is capable of doing far worse than that. It was the biggest killer on the battlefield during WWI and WWII.

Anyone know if there’s a significance for Shaw to look up at the sky/sun as they’re advancing into battle?

How come the confederates act like a bunch of guerilla fighters and insurgents? rather than disciplined soilders, they always act wild.

the one thing I dont like about this is the fact that it look like the Union is getting slaughtered but if you look at Antietam the casualties were closer than this movie depicts.

yea but those are the numbers. The Union was getting slaughtered as they attempted to advance, and only then, after they forced themselves into the confederate lines, they turned the numbers to rise on the confederates. They don’t show you that part.

Thank God for TECHNOLOGY… Fighting like this in the 20th Century would be insane! Gotta give props to both sides for having balls of steel!

Yankee should have been court-martialled for cowardice in the face of the enemy.

It’s unreliable they kept up this tactic of war right up until World War , against machine guns.

But! is it any worse than dropping thousands of ponds bombs on the civilians, or military targets. War is War, loss of life in any form that is contributed by war is never pretty, no matter what side your on.

In alot of accounts of civil war battles they will talk about how the smoke was so immense it appeared to block out the sun, and I think that thats what this is trying to convey.

Jefferson gave us The Declaration of Independence.

Lincoln put the Declaration into context in his Gettysburg Speech, which explained to us the meaning of “all men (and women) are created equal with certain inalienable rights”.

Obama: “There is no blue state, there is no red state there is only the UNITED STATES.”

God bless our nation and God bless this last beacon of hope and righteousness called the United States of America!

In all honesty? That movie was garbage. In no way would the South have conquered the North. That wasn’t their goal at all. In fact, Lee had problems convincing some of his units that they were even justified in going to Maryland, where this battle of Anteitam was fought. Many of the soldiers thought they had no right to advance into a State which was not part of the Confederacy.

Not likely at all. There would be two countries in North America, and by 2009 who knows, perhaps we’d have reunified.
