The little kid’s mother must have not wanted him, since she never came back for him; sad. :(

I always thought this was a depressing episode, mainly because it was during the ill Curly era., although it was funny watching him beat up on Larry in the end. This was the final short to use the “swing” rendition of the “Three Blind Mice” theme.

    Good question. O_o

I agree. Curly just did not seem himself in this episode, which was depressing for me to watch. Usually it is Larry who has the minor role in the curly era and it is curly who moe and larry pick on most of the time but in this episode it was the opposite. It was still funny none the less, but a little bit depressing.

The best part was wen curly responded to Moe’s orders by saying “eye eye” lmfao haha and then he was poked in the eye lol haha

Well, Curly Still Made Me Laugh, But Yea It’s Sad To Watch How Calm He Is. Well, A Least Larry Get’s Attention During That Era.

thats because he was sick he was in 12 other films before his stroke you can tell by his slow movements little did he know he was suffering from hemorrhage in the brain caused by stroke he did suffered a second massive stroke which left him partially paralyzed until finally he died of a massive cerebral hemorrhage

    all in all its sad….

the lack of technology and available medical treatments back in the Stooge era (comparing to the sorts of options they have to treat strokes in todays society) is what did it

cuz normally today, strokes are common and most of the time, although its tough to make full recoveries, the effects are controlled

I have had family members that have suffered strokes, and its scary to see because to this day even with all the technology and medication its not helping the recovery

This is a really sad short not because of Curly’s declining health but because of a sad little boy trying to get reunited with his family with no hope, Larry at least makes this short worth watching

Of all Curly’s performances during his post-stroke period I would rank this his weakest performance, while I did enjoy this short it was really sad watching Curly struggling to perform in this short, Larry on the other hand does a great job in this short and this is one of his best performances and it was great seeing Larry having a good sized role in this short.

I would have to agree that “Three Loan Wolves” is where Curly’s performance was weakest among his illness-era shorts. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed him despite his constantly struggling throughout. When he punched the dummy and after getting hit by the dummy and hits the loan shark in the stomach, knocking him against the way, causing the bowling balls to fall on his, I laughed very hard. A small burst of greatness. Larry though made up for Curly’s struggles. Great short as always. :)

RIP Curly, we’ll never forget you.
Why wouldn’t the producers let Curly get better? The prized that the whole production paid was a prize the whole world didn’t wanna pay. Depressin film.

    Update of my previous post:

While I view this short as among Curly’s weakest performances alongside “Monkey Businessmen”, he still put on a great performance.

Although this is by far among Curly’s weakest among his illness era, Larry shined on this short. The part at 5:37 to 5:40 made me laugh my ass off! I also loved when Moe slapped Larry causing his hat to fall off while he was holding the baby.

I love how Moe’s voice sounded at 2:20 to 2:25 as he yelled at Larry. :D

Even though the short is funny, it’s sad to watch for the reasons mentioned already: Curly’s illness and the little orphan boy. They kept production going for one reason only: money! To shut down production just so a very ill man could hopefully get somewhat better was (and maybe still is) “unconscionable” (to quote Mike Tyson).
