actually the point i’m trying to make is how meaning is created through the combination of image and sound. a lot of people here seem to like this particular combination of image and sound. it doesn’t actually take anything away from the achievement of koyaanisqatsi.
try thinking about what you’re saying before being a self-righteous dick. or making stupid value judgements about what constitutes the “best music ever made for a film” and what consitutes a “generic rock song”.
And still you felt no obligation to credit Philip Glass’s work in your video description or any of your comments, while you reference Fricke, Reggio, and the Strokes.
BECAUSE HIS MUSIC IS NOT IN THIS VIDEO!!!!!!
believe it or not, my policy on crediting is to give it to those whose work appears in the article being credited.
philip Glass’ score has nothing to do with this particular video. i feel no obligation to reference it.
people who become interested in koyaanisqatsi after watching this video will go look it up.
i reckon this video has probably turned a lot of people onto that movie who would’ve never heard of it otherwise.
Yeah, his music has nothing to do with this video. Except for the fact that you took it out of the original footage.
you seem to be operating from the premise that the footage and music from koyaanisqatsi are somehow never meant to part from one another.
guess what: this video is not supposed to be koyaanisqatsi! i have taken footage from that movie and mixed it with different music to demonstrate how new meanings can be created!
it has nothing to do with the unique meaning that is created by the combination of ron fricke’s images and philip glass’ music!
how do you not get this?
furthermore, are you even aware that this footage is among the most licensed – ie. sold – for use as stock footage? does it upset you to learn this?
do you think philip glass gives two shits? or ron fricke? how bout godfrey reggio?
hey man…i just like it…there’s some work too…so…get rid of the envious people….if they like to point the finger at you why don’t they do something better? (if they can)…I liked your clip and I had seen the movie too in my youth….to me the music (I was 15) was deadly boring (philip glass is a genius but at that age I couldn’t stand serious music) while the images were and are stunning…What about a remake with new music? good idea!
Im sorry but i feel your wasting your time explaining your self, and your pretty good editing work witch i think was a good mix, But my point is people are ignorant and you cant teach someone that’s ignorant to see or understand things in other ways, I think that people who cant read your explanation on the side of the video can go screw themselves because all they like being is critics that haven’t really accomplished anything with their actual life.
very well said, i appreciate that!
Cunts. The video is good, and so is the song, get over it.
this is a great video the guy trahsing it should get a life or shut the hell up
Absolutly love it!!! Great job!
Wow DArcyFD if you set this video to HARD TO EXPLAIN i think it would fit even BETTER considering that whole video is stock footage and actually has some of these clips in it.
Great, great work man. so contemplative and artful set to great music.
This video needs to be featured…
This is just unbelievably cool. This is music, this is creativity – this is art.
NONE of the video is stock; it was all shot specifically for Koyaanisqatsi by Reggio and Fricke. DArcyFD also doesn’t claim to have done any editing here (other than music selection). He just took a section of the movie and dropped the Strokes over it.
As I understand it, the creation process between Reggio and Glass was much more entwined than usual. Material sent back and forth many times instead of editing to the music or composing to the edit. So although they can obviously be separated from each other, they were especially intended to be viewed together.
Of course you can set it all to something else for a different juxtaposition. IMHO it has just lost a lot of it’s power and don’t be surprised to get called out for that.
Yo fatslice, if you actually paid attention to what i said, it was HARD TO EXPLAIN that uses alot of stock footage and footage from WAR GAMES duh!
i know this is from Koyaanasqatsi it SAYS SO RIGHT IN THE DESCRIPTION shit.
also he DOES say it was an editing project and he repeates the SUBWAY tickets part for the second chorus so HE DOES edit stuff here
just pay attention a little more before commenting please
thanks bye.
Ok, sorry for the mistake. I know the general level of discourse on youtube is low. Congratulations on keeping up the tone of a 14 year old dickhead. SHEESH. DUH! SHIT!
btw I like your Carl Sagan video quite a bit.
nothing surprises me, i’m happy to respond to other peoples’ thoughts.
but don’t be surprised if i try to argue what i think is right. surely someone can explain their work if they think something crucial is being misinterpreted.
This is just plain wrong.
1) StrangeheartsTV was referring to the Hard to Explain video, which is essentially composed of ’stock’ footage, shots that come form disparate sources, never recorded for the specific purpose of a Hard to Explain video. Furthermore, much of Koyaanisqatsi has since been sold for use as stock footage. This has nothing to do with why it was shot in the first place.
2) I did not just take a section of the movie and drop the Strokes over it.
Quite a bit of time and effort went into editing the shots so they match the music.
That’s why I call it an EDITING exercise.
Editing is NOT just matching up a chunk of vision to a chunk of sound.
very good song (y)
Nice vw a 2.00
