Ryuichi Sakamoto Trio 1996 – Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Posted by admin on Nov 21, 2009 in Uncategorized |
Taken from The Ryuichi Sakamoto Trio World Tour 1996 ~ Complete Version DVD. Ryuichi Sakamoto [piano], Everton Nelson [violin] and Jaques Morelenbaum [cello]. Great stuff!
I only just found out that Utada sampled this song for her album
But I still like both Sakamoto’s and Utada’s version.
I kinda half agree, the composition is really beautifull, but she had to kind of “americanify” her music for the western market, she didnt completly sell out though, lotsa fans interperet it to mean different things. what can i say apart from i dont think this is utadas best album yet, but hey, you think this is her worst song try listening to “dirty desires” without puking, Hikari FTW
I actually don’t listen to too much Utada Hikaru songs, but I have definitely heard some due to Kingdom Hearts xD.
I’m fine with the song in general, but if you look at the lyrics, it just kind of bothers me. But you’re right, she did have to “americanify” it… silly target media!
Incredible talent to write this and act in the film so well
Great sample isnt it
WHO IS MR. LAWRENCE?
“Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence”
Is a war movie.
After listening to Ai’s and Utada’s versions, I still think David Sylvian’s lyrics suit the original music much better.
I LOVE YOU!
I thought this tune was ‘Forbidden colours’ theme?
It was OST of The movie called ‘Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” released on 1983. The lyrical version a.k.a ‘ Forbidden Colors”, Yes Hikki and many more singers use the phenomenal intro…
idc what anyone says in my own opinion to me, this the Best SONG EVER i cant stop listening to it. its been 2 years since i first heard this song and still to this day i cant stop!!
just beautifull
this is lovely. just lovely. simply fantastic.
talmente profondo che ancora oggi riesce ad aprire una voragine di immenso amore
he just played it with such passion, no wonder in the last we see of him here he was tired and sweating, to play that final
It’s from Ryuichi Sakamoto’s album “1996″ was has been re-issued recently. Places like HMV and Amazon should stock it.
