CME Welcomes Focus on Workforce Development

Posted by admin on Dec 10, 2009 in Uncategorized |

According to CME, the unprecedented growth experienced by Western Australia up until late 2008 resulted in increased pressure on many aspects of the State, including labour. With this growth set to return across the resources sector there is a need to build, attract and retain a skilled workforce in Western Australia to meet the requirements of industry.

CME Chief Executive Mr Reg Howard-Smith said: “The approach by the State Government to prepare WA’s Workforce Development Plan to maximise workforce participation and utilisation of skills, and to promote the seamless transition from training into the workforce is to be congratulated.

“The greatest threat to sustained development in Western Australia is the absence of a vision for growth. The Minister for Training, the Hon Peter Collier MLC has given a clear commitment to the importance of training and workforce development in this State,” Mr Howard-Smith said.

“Up-skilling, training and workforce planning are key inputs into the State’s economic prosperity and the creation of a Department solely committed to this will ensure a focus on these matters,” he said.

CME looks forward to working closely with the new Department of Training and Workforce Development to ensure an enhanced training system exists in Western Australia which assists the sector to address its skills needs.
